33rd Annual Empowerment Congress Summit: Where do we go from here - Chaos or Democracy?
As we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, it is important to remember the reasons for his impactful work and continue MLK’s legacy. The legacy of the Civil Rights Movement throughout America has historically celebrated MLK as a primary leader, but as he would have told you himself, he could not have done it alone. The community that surrounded him, as well as the leaders and activists who supported him, all helped in the long, difficult process for equality and justice. This journey cannot be swayed away from, and although these roads come with turmoil, it is community and understanding that allows us to overcome these obstacles.
In this same spirit of activism, community, and civic engagement, join the Empowerment Congress this Saturday, January 25 at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science for the 33rd Annual Empowerment Congress Summit. This will be a great opportunity to come together with like-minded members of the area to have open dialogues about various topics on the horizon, and meet the local leadership hoping to make good on these aspirations. There will be a wonderful panel full of political leaders as well, such as US Representative Sydney Kamlager, LA County Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell, and CA State Assemblymembers Issac Bryan and Sade Elhawary, among other speakers.
